Lucky you. And an area in KC "with a distinct European feel." I miss that even in Portland or if it is to be found here, it's some distance from my hope. The topic of your discussion sounds like a typically philosophical, abstract, leading nowhere. Regardless, it was good to hear about it. How often does the club meet? And is it always at the same coffeehouse? Thank you, Linda.Richard Katzevhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03466537940588392927noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8215036862051955994.post-14010121634074408712015-11-20T04:49:40.906-10:002015-11-20T04:49:40.906-10:00Wonderful post, Richard. The photos make me a little sad that I missed it and that it is probably gone forever in our digital age. Or perhaps not. I recently attended a meeting of the Kansas City Philosophy Club, held in a cafe in the Country Club Plaza area (a unique public area in KC with a distinct European feel). We drank coffee, munched on sandwiches and salads, and talked about literary theory for over two hours. Everyone was an absolute stranger to me. Very much out of my comfort zone, but I was glad I went - it was very intellectually stimulating. I wonder if the coffee house experience was something like that. There were 3 laptop users, those people were there quite a long time. 2 people were reading newspapers, the remainder had their noses to a cell phone screen. Somehow, it all goes along with the Starbuck's logoed paper cups, highly transitory and temporary. A reflection of our society.crofterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01977273055291702683noreply@blogger.com
